Primary discovered 4 January 1989 by R. H. McNaught at Siding Spring Observatory. Alternate designations 1989 AA5, 1979 PF, 1989 CM9, 1994 LB.

Companion discovered by D. Pray, W. Brookfield, K. Hornoch, P. Kusnirak, P. Pravec, V. Chiorny, Yu. Krugly, M. Husarik, M. Pikler, F. Marchis, B. Macomber, M. Kislak, J. Vilagi, and S. Gajdos based on lightcurve observations from 16 April-3 May 2009 from Carbuncle, Ondrejov, Kharkiv, Skalnate Pleso, Lick, and Modra observatories in the Ondrejov Observatory Photometric Survey for Asynchronous Binary Asteroids, announced 7 May 2009.
