Primary discovered 1994 Jun 15 from Steward Observatory, Kitt Peak, Arizona, USA by Spacewatch Program. Linked to prediscovery observations from 1977 Aug 10. Permanent number assigned 1997 Sep 16.

Companion discovered 2022 Jun 01 by B. D. Warner, R. D. Stephens, and D. R. Coley using lightcurve observations from Center for Solar System Studies, Landers, California, USA. Announced 2022 Sep 22 [W22f].
