Primary discovered 8 January 2000 by the LINEAR program at Socorro, New Mexico; linked to precovery observations from 1951. Alternate designation 1951 YZ1.

Secondary discovered by B. D. Warner, A. W. Harris, and D. Pray from photometric lightcurve observations obtained 13-19 July 2009; announced 20 July 2009.
