Primary discovered 2001 Aug 16 from Socorro, New Mexico, USA by Lincoln Laboratory Near-Earth Asteroid Research Team. Alternate designation(s): 1998 XZ38. Linked to prediscovery observations from 1971 Mar 25. Permanent number assigned 2003 Mar 18.

Companion discovered 2017 Jan by P Pravec, et al. using lightcurve observations. Announced 2019 Jan 10 [P21i].
