Williams cites my abortion data in an online letter, "Theft of life," at BMJ (British Medical Journal) responding to the article "Abortion round the world" by Hannah Brown. Dr. Williams correctly pointed out that the WHO abortion data cited by Brown are highly suspect, as they involve many questionable assumptions that tend to inflate estimates of abortions in developing countries. Several other respondents added critiques of Brown's claims, which included many of the common but fallicious claims of the global pro-abortion movement. [E23]

This paper, by Charles Streeper, Marcie Lombardi, and Lee Cantrell, presented at 48th Annual Meeting, Institute of Nuclear Materials Management, reviews several databases (including my own) with regard to criminal acts involving radioactive materials. Such efforts as their research are important to improving the safety and security of radioactive materials, including counterterrorism efforts addressing such WMD. [E22]

- May 2007: A prestigious honor: I am misquoted by no less than The Economist. An article on abortion worldwide in the 19-25 May 2007 Economist includes this: "In many African and Muslim countries the rate is probably less than 5%, says William Robert Johnston, an American pundit. But he notes that data are elusive, and that the link between law and reality is often tenuous." I presume this was their interpretation of material on my website, given that I haven't spoken to The Economist. I would agree that abortion data is elusive, but I tend to conclude more than some observers that legislation does influence abortion practice. [56]
- May 2007: 10,000,000 hits to date.
- April 2007: A report from the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, The Medical Right: Remaking Medicine in Their Image, cites my list of SBC resolutions on abortion. [55]

Both the book and the accompanying Powerpoint presentation cite my review of Gore's book. [E19]
- November 2006: A paper by K. M. Hedayat, P. Shooshtarizadeh, and M. Raza, "Therapeutic abortion in Islam: contemporary views of Muslim Shiite scholars and effect of recent Iranian legislation" in Journal of Medical Ethics, cites my data on abortion. [48]
- November 2006: An indirect but interesting reference: John Mueller in his recent book Overblown: How Politicians and the Terrorism Industry Inflate National Security Threats, and Why We Believe Them, cites in the introduction a colculation by Alan Harris comparing the risks of dying from international terrorism to the risks of dying from an asteroid impact. Mueller felt obligated to post on his web site Harris's explanation of the calculation, which cites my compiled data on international terrorism.

- September 2006: I have again been cited as an example of a so-called "global warming skeptic"--this time by an Australian study guide for Gore's new science fiction thriller "An Inconvenient Truth". The guide by Robert Lewis and Andrew Fildes cites my review of Gore's book when asking students to "cut and paste" points by "sceptics/deniers". Hopefully this is not typical of the standard of education in Australia. [E17]
- August 2006: The Learning Standards, Grade 3, Curriculum Tools for Teachers, Science, for the District of Columbia Public Schools, includes a reference to my discussion of the scientific method. My discussion is not particularly remarkable, and this illustrates that accurate discussion of the scientific method in the context of primary education is hard to come by. [E16]
- August 2006: Another reference to my "sceptical claims" regarding global warming, this one at the Climate Change Blog in Australia, involving a rebuttal by Nicholas Harvey to my page refuting the Waterworld scenario. I have posted a response.
- August 2006: Updated multiple pages in response to the IAU's new definition of a planet, a definition which excludes the most underestimated planet. (Incidentally, rumor has it that my proposed Texan definition of a planet has been making appearances in astronomy presentations here and there. The resistance in support of Pluto is alive!)

A number of statements are referenced from my pages on global warming; as time permits, though, I will post something more specific on the issue, since the collected quotes in the Telegraph article really don't work as a summary statement. (Note: a position statement of sorts is now posted here.) [36]
- March 2006: The fifth edition of W. H. Freeman's college geology textbook Understanding Earth by J. Grotzinger, T. H. Jordan, F. Press, and R. Siever, includes a version of my rendering of an ice age Earth--I'm pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to this text. [35]
- March 2006: A new review of minor planet binaries by Keith S. Noll, "Solar system binaries", includes a complementary reference to my resources on binary asteroids and TNOs. This paper certainly demonstrates how much this field has developed in just a few years: the first confirmed asteroid satellite was recognized 13 years ago; only 14 examples were known 5 years ago; and now, with 88 known asteroid/TNO systems, we have many interesting pieces of the puzzle.
