Note: abortions by county of residence is only available for 1999 for those obtained by women ages 15-19. These figures are given below as reported abortions. In addition, estimates are given for total abortions for each county for all ages; methodology for these estimates is discussed below the table.

Methology for estimates: Reported data for New Mexico permits calculation of abortion rates (per 1,000 women) by county for women ages 15-19. Corresponding county-level abortion rates for women ages 15-44 is obtained from a model relating the rates for the two age groups. This model is based on the relationship of county-level rates for the two age groups for Arizona counties for 2000-2009. These county-level rates are highly correlated (correlation coefficient=0.91). The relation is modeled with dependence on county-level abortion frequency to account for uncertainties due to low frequency rates in small counties. Derived rates (with one-sigma error estimates) are combined with county-level estimates of female population ages 15-44 to obtain estimates and estimated range.
