Type of event: exposure to source irradiated by research reactor

Description:

An accident occurred involving a sample at a research reactor; neutron activation of the sample was significantly underestimated. One individual received second and third degree radiation burns on the right hand from a localized dose of 2,000 to 3,000 rad.

Consequences: 1 injury.
