Description:

In Khankala, Chechnya, Russia, an Mi-26 helicopter carrying Russian troops was shot down by a terrorist-fired missile shortly before landing. Of those aboard, 115 were killed immediately and 12 later died of injuries; the 21 survivors included 14 injured.

Consequences: 127 killed, 14 injured
