Description:

Nine adults were killed (Cynthia Marie Graham Hurd, Susie Jackson, Ethel Lee Lance, Depayne Middleton-Doctor, Clementa C. Pinckney, Tywanza Sanders, Daniel Simmons, Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, and Myra Thompson) and one injured in a shooting at a Bible study at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina; Pinckney was the church's pastor and was also a state senator.

The attacker, Dylann Roof, was captured 13 hours later by police in Shelby, North Carolina, 400 km away, based on tips from a friend of Roof and a motorist. Roof told a survivor of the attack that his intent was to start a race war; he also had a website with racist content.

Consequences: 9 killed, 1 injured
